Compassionate Care For Your Healthy, Happy Child
By Alissa Reinhard
As a parent, there aren’t many things worse than when your child falls ill. You would do anything to take away their pain and discomfort. It’s
important to have a provider who you can trust will provide compassionate, comprehensive and exceptional medical care for your child. Providers Wendy Gideon, MD; Allison Wells Morales, MD; Sarah Liss, M.D.; and Shannon Bartell, RN, CPNP consider it both a great joy and responsibility to care for children. Since 2003, Helotes Pediatrics has been privileged to serve families in the Helotes community and across San Antonio.
“We love the role that families allow us to play in the health and development of their
children,” said Dr. Gideon, practice owner and co-founder. “The ability to watch a child grow and mature is a joy and unsurpassable pleasure.”
It’s important to all of the providers at Helotes Pediatrics that you, as a parent, are heard and understood. After all, mom and dad know their child best. As a small practice with a limited number of providers, patients have the ability to schedule with their preferred provider who is not only familiar with their medical history, but also has a relationship and a rapport with the family and the patient alike.
“Our strength is serving families on a long-term basis,” said Dr. Gideon. “We welcome new patients as newborns and follow them until they graduate high school. We’re a traditional, independent practice with strong values and we’re proud of that.”
Although we are living in unprecedented times and adjusting to our “new normal,” Helotes Pediatrics remains dedicated to patients and their families, helping them navigate life during a pandemic.
“We understand that this is an unprecedented era in many of our lives but we encourage parents to enjoy time with their children!” said Nurse Practitioner Bartell. “Although there are changes and uncertainty occurring all around us, it’s important to remain a staple of love and support. Read to your children. Implement outdoor activities. Be creative and try new things!”
In order to keep patients safe, Helotes Pediatrics is closely following the guidelines set forth by the CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the San Antonio Metro Health Department. Morning appointment are reserved for well visits including well child exams, newborn visits, sports physicals and non-infectious conditions such as ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Musculoskeletal Injuries and Eczema. Patients are asked to be accompanied by only one parent or guardian. Families are able to check in for their appointment from the comfort of their personal vehicle
where they can wait until they are called and individually escorted into their exam room. And at the completion of their visit, they may simply leave the office and arrange payment and schedule follow ups over the phone, allowing them to further avoid close contact with other staff members or patients in the office.
“While we understand that some of these changes may be inconvenient, we feel that it’s important to decrease the risk of unnecessary contact while allowing social distancing,” explained Nurse Practitioner Bartell.
Helotes Pediatrics is also now able to provide care for some conditions via Telehealth, a convenient and safe alternative to an office visit.
“Many of our families have expressed appreciation in the ability to access care to their physician while being able to remain in the comfort and safety of their home,” said Dr. Gideon
At Helotes Pediatrics, you’re treated like family because you ARE family. Second to you (the parent), no one knows your child better than their pediatrician.
“Continuity of care is so important and the sooner you find a good pediatrician and establish a productive relationship, the better!” explained Nurse Practitioner Bartell. “We have found that once our patients meet our providers and interact with our staff, and when they see that we really are committed to making our practice convenient and accessible as possible, they are patients for life. That means so much to us.”
Raising a child is a journey – it should be met with joy and enthusiasm matched by their pediatrician. The providers at Helotes Pediatrics are excited and privileged to care for
each new life and help you facilitate an environment in which your child can thrive and develop.
Helotes Pediatrics strives to make sure patients are seen in a timely manner – more often than not within 24 hours of calling to make an appointment. Most sick visits can be scheduled the same day – a huge weight off the shoulders of any parent worried about their child. Calls made after hours are directed to an answering service where an RN can help answer routine, non-emergency questions. However, if the matter is deemed more urgent, your concerns will be directed to one of the doctors on call who will quickly get back to you – another comforting aspect of the practice. All major forms of insurance are accepted.
Helotes Pediatrics believes in working together to build life-long relationships between staff, providers and patients. Drs. Gideon, Liss, Wells and Nurse Practitioner Bartell are excited to walk hand-in-hand with you through this amazing journey we call life along a path of optimal health and wellness. Helotes Pediatrics can’t wait to welcome you to their family!
